Nature’s Home in the City
The Island grew out of a dream. A dream to make a space in the city that evokes the freedom of walking through the forest, or of relaxing in a meadow. Tapping into all the senses, we’ve designed a space that incorporates sounds and scents from natural landscapes, abundant sunlight, and as many natural materials as possible. Edinburgh is lucky to be so close to nature, but we want to take this even further by bringing those vital qualities indoors.
The Island is a home to sought-after tattoo artists who practise their art in a calm and tranquil setting. Getting a tattoo is an ancient human experience and we want to bring back a sense of reverence, reflection and natural connection to the art-form.
On the first Sunday of each month we host select wellbeing activities, including yoga and sound baths, all run by local practitioners.
The studio was created by tattoo and biophilic artist, Jamie Johnstone (JamJam Tattoo).
