What Type of Information We Have & How We Get It

In order to operate our business, we collect and hold some data about you, all of which is provided by you directly both by email and on our tattoo consent forms.

By email, this information typically includes: your name and email address in order to make and process bookings and payments.

In our consent forms, it will also typically include your address; your phone number; your date of birth; medical information relevant to safe tattooing practices; a copy of the ID document you provide us; your consent to being tattooed – all of which we require in order to fulfil our legal, licensing and insurance obligations to operate a tattoo studio.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

  • Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time regarding the information we hold about you that you have provided by email. You can do this by contacting us by email at either hello@theisland.studio or jamjamtattoo@gmail.com.

  • We have a legal obligation. Under the local authority’s tattoo licensing regulations we are legally obligated to hold the data collected on the tattoo consent form for a period of no less than 2 years.

  • We have a contractual obligation. Our insurers require us to abide by the local authority’s tattoo licensing regulations, which includes holding your data for the reasons and in the manner described above. The consent form also constitutes a contract between us and our clients and therefore must be retained.


What We Do With The Information

We use the information that you give us in order to make and process bookings and to fulfil our legal obligations under the local authority’s licensing requirements.

We may share this information with the local authority if lawfully required to do. We may also share this information with our insurer (Inksurance/Beazley Syndicate) if lawfully required to do so in the event of a claim.


Your information (provided by email) is stored on secure servers, provided by Google, Hover, Square, and by Xero. We do not delete this data unless requested by a client, and only if this is legally possible.

Your information, as provided by you on the consent form, is held by us securely in the studio and/or on secure servers (provided by Google and BuildArray) – we are legally required to do so for a period of no less than 2 years under the local authority’s licensing regulations. As the consent form constitutes a contract between us and the client, we naturally retain this information and do not delete it.

How We Store Your Information


Under data protection law, you have rights including:

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

  • You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
